After our horse riding adventure, we headed into Barilioche to meet Charlene, a Taiwanese friend we had met in BA whilst Scottish Country Dancing. Bariloche is a delightful town – imagine a Swiss town nestled next to a vast lake with mountains all around. You get the idea. The only unfortunate thing is that it has a reputation for break-ins to camper vans and so we elected to stay at a motorhome park. On our way in we drove the Circuito Chico – a 25km scenic loop around some islands in the Lago Nahuel Huapi.
The next day we met Charlene for dinner at a local Chinese restaurant, stocking up on Soy sauce in the restaurant’s shop beforehand. Francine and I spent the next day exploring Bariloche.
Charlene has bought land on the Arriba peninsula and we went with Charlene to visit the site for her new home. We popped in to say “hello” to her Armenian neighbours and ended up spending a very nice afternoon with them.
From Bariloche we drove the ‘Seven Lakes’ tourist route through the Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi – a beautiful drive with mountains, lakes, and the picturesque towns of Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes. Our next stop was Junín de los Andes with its very interesting Parque Via Christi. Here we spent three hours amongst the sculptures of artist Alejandro Santana and climbing the steep hill to view a metal and perspex image of Christ. Next stop … volcanoes of Chile.
Sounds a delightful place. Might move there myself
It looks beautiful, it does look very European, the sculptures are amazing.
