Temporary Break in Transmission

All good plans…….

Having said goodbye to Big Bertha in Durban back in March we were expecting to meet her again in Zarate, Argentina, in early May. Unfortunately, the shipping companies have had different ideas.

Big Bertha, because of her size, needs to be transported by a RoRo ship (Roll On, Roll Off). These are normally used to transport new vehicles from their point of manufacture to their point of sale. In this case Asia to Africa and South America. The shipping schedules, and where the the ships call, are very much determined by manufacturing rates and market demand.

The plan is that Big Bertha join one of these ships coming from Asia to drop off a batch of new cars in Africa before continuing to Argentina. Unfortunately, the next ship is not scheduled until mid June and we have not yet been allocated space on that vessel.

So what have we been doing? We have spent most of our time up until now in Exeter, but with short visits to London and Nottingham. And now we have journeyed to Béziers in the south of France to hang out at our friend’s empty apartment until June – or possibly longer (thanks Raquel!). The weather is warm and we hope to catch up with friends, eat good food, and drink local wine.
