South America – The Statistics

We get asked all the time about the statistics behind our journey. When we started, we made a budgetary estimate as to how much our adventure would cost us and this has been pretty much on target. Budding adventurers may find this very useful in formulating their own plans.

We published our statistics for Southern Africa here and it has been interesting to compare these with the South American statistics, now Big Bertha is at port ready for shipping to Central America.

These stats do not include our ‘background’ costs such as purchasing Big Bertha, storing our household belongings, shipping Big Bertha to and from South America, our flights to and from South America and, costs associated with home visits and ongoing life costs such as driving licences, UK national insurance and vaccinations, etc. Big side trips are also not included, for example Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands.

When comparing the stats with Africa, note that we spent nine months stationary in Zambia during Covid which skews the stats somewhat.
