The Picos de Europa was definitely the highlight of our Spanish trip for me. The weather, scenery and roads were just stunning. The plains from there to Madrid were boring in comparison. We both liked Madrid – the Xmas atmosphere was lovely. The South East coast is very competitive when it comes to finding camping spots, and wild camping is mostly out of the question. Unlike the interior, the coast was like ‘Little Britain’ – pubs and fish ‘n’ chip shops – all with English signage.
We met up with UAE friends in Javea and managed one Scottish country dance class, which was great fun. From there we headed inland again and visited the Alhambra in Granada, which was another highlight for me. A final run down through the Sierra Nevada found us at Algeciras where we purchased the ferry tickets and stocked up on essentials for our three month Moroccan expedition. Spain is definitely somewhere I could live, but the location would have to be somewhere between the very Spanish interior and the international coastline.
Oh, the Qs are leaving us ( European continent). Looking forward learning about Africa. Go for it, while we are still in the snow (Munich).
We have left the building!! We are really enjoying Morocco. There is snow here on the peaks and we are ‘enjoying’ 0c mornings… 🙂
