From Portal Cañadón Pinturas we visited Perito Moreno. It’s a nice little town with some interesting shops. We bought cherries (it was the season), groceries, and a very nice lemon drizzle cake! Suitably equipped we drove to Portal La Ascensión National Park and camped at their excellent free campsite. The next day we hiked 26km up to a remote lake in the park hoping to find critically endangered hooded grebe ( medium-sized grebe found in the southern region of Argentina). Alas only ducks and swans were there to entertain us during our lunch.
Next stop was Los Antiguos to buy more lemon drizzle cake and to pick up the Ruta 41 south. It is a very little used, but incredibly scenic gravel road – in our opinion, the best in Argentina so far. It eventually leads back to the Perito Moreno National Park, but we turned off to the quiet Paso Roballos border crossing into Chile.
All that way for a lemon drizzle cake!
More stunning scenery, the rock formations are spectacular, are the horses wild?
Walking would be hard, but such a pleasure surrounded by such beauty.
Looking forward to your next instalment.
Loved the scenery. Video a good idea.
The latest further 26 km UPHILL hike in the remote Argentine heights, it is unanimously agreed, firmly puts to bed, through the Popean Falsification Theory, the suggested proposition “Dave’s old legs” and makes way for the shout from the rooftops and spires: “Vive les jaunes jambes de Dave [et aussie,de Francine]”
“VIVE LES JEUNES JAMBES” ‘jaunes’ from the accrued hike dust!!!
WOW, is all I can say as the views are stunning and your both looking well 😊
Thank you Sarah!!
