We had intended to make our way from Santander across to Portugal and then over to Madrid (we were due to fly out from Madrid). But we got to the Picos and just sort of stopped.
Our first port of call was Lebeña, a small hamlet on the approach to the Picos. We had the camp spot to ourselves and we hiked up into the mountains for a picnic.
Our next stop was Potes which is a lovely medieval town with a lively atmosphere and a supermarket with free wi-fi!
After a tour around we ventured on to Fuente Dé and took a very scenic cable car journey to the peaks where we spent the beautiful morning hiking in the snow covered peaks.
We then ventured over a high pass which tested both truck and driver to the other side of the mountain range.
We camped at Aguilar de Campoo, Cerera de Pisuessga, Riaño before returning over another pass to Cangas de Onís . This was another delightful town and was a good base for a trip to Covadonga. From here we traveled to Lastres and then Oveido before making a beeline to Madrid for our flight out to Indonesia
David, looks great – very envious!
Are you taking the truck to Indonesia?
HSR project still ongoing, now on airport PPP! Same desk, same room, unlike you!
Regards
Stuart
Sadly not, the truck was stored in Madrid. Good luck with the HSR and remember me when it gets the green light. Dave
Dave its got the green light with the CP team in the box seat – we have an ITD kick off meeting tomorrow (Boxing Day!).
There is so much to do though, it will be some time before anything happens. If I see a fit I will let you know. S
Love the whole Picos area. If you happen to pass anywhere near to El Torcal, check that out too. http://www.virtualreinhard.com/wp/wolves-and-karst-in-antequera/
Thanks for the tip Reinhard!
Hi Dave, nice pictures – just wondering about the truck, do you fly or ship that to Indonesia, or park it somewhere and go back to it? Anyhow, merry Christmas.
Hi Victor, we stored the truck in Madrid. Dave
It all looks fabulous. You guys must be having a great time. Merry Christmas and happy travels in the New year! Who knows, we might see you in South Africa! Best regards from Eric and Margot
