Given it was winter (late December) when we crossed into the USA from Mexico we decided to tour the southwest rather than head north, and into the snow, too quickly. This proved to be a good decision because, although cold, we’ve had mostly sunny weather. We tried to pick a route that would take us through the ‘headline’ national parks (Grand Canyon, Arches, Bryce, Zion) and some less visited parks too (Natural Bridges, Valley of the Gods, Canyon Lands, Capitol Reef, Valley of Fire). On the whole, our route turned out very well. We bought an ‘America the Beautiful’ pass which covers us for all national parks for a year and this has paid for itself in short order. Here is our route from the border to Las Vegas.

Describing each stop, with photos, is too much for one blog entry and so we will break it down into manageable chunks for your indigestion over the coming days…
This looks like an idyllic route! Have you felt welcome as outsiders? I lived in the US for quite a few years but feel somewhat nervous about going back at the moment with foreign plates. But I’d love to tour there again.
Very much welcomed! No regrets in coming at all.
Good to hear! Thanks and keep enjoying the ride….
Looking forward to your forthcoming journey…
Prepare for a deluge!
What a great start to your next adventure.
Have you had any issues entering any of the parks with you big rig?
Hi Mike, the only park we have had problems with was in Zimbabwe in Africa, otherwise, no problems so far.
