Mexico Round Up

Headline – we did not get shot, robbed, kidnapped or made to pay any bribes in Mexico, contrary to the popular belief! In fact, we found Mexico to be a very peaceful and friendly country; but we did abide by the UK Government’s travel advice on where to go. We stayed in country for just over four months (128 days) and drove 6,334km.

The south of the mainland, Chiapas and Oaxaca regions, we found to be the most interesting in terms of the scenery, towns and ancient ruins. Baja California is all about beaches and you’d almost think you were in the USA – the number of RVs there was staggering. But luckily Big Bertha’s offroad abilities allowed us off the beaten track and we found some very secluded and beautiful places to camp.

Mexico classifies some (many!) towns as “Pueblos Magicos”. In the main, you can expect these towns to be tourist friendly, historically significant, colourfully painted and well worth visiting.

Big Bertha continued to have fuelling problems that were eventually sorted out by a Bosch Service Centre, in Mexico City. Aside from that, we picked up a fresh set of tyres (thank you Michelin) and a nasty puncture that a local mechanic patched up (thank you Fernando).

Here are some clips of driving in Mexico (just to remind Dave later).
