At our camp on the bank of the Zambezi river, close to the Zambia border post, we are reflecting on our 88 days in a country we have come to very much like; Namibia. We are definitely more than a little sad to be leaving.
Namibia is a very easy and safe country to explore and we’ve made it our business to see a good deal of it. We have travelled 7,940km in country.
Our route can be seen, and our GPX track can be downloaded, from our Route page.
We would have liked to have travelled deeper into Kaokoland and searched out the lonely men – we unfortunately did not find one (their locations are not published and it is a sort of treasure hunt to find them). David was very sorry to have missed them.
Its always difficult to single out events from what has been a magnificent all round adventure. But if pushed, I would say these are the highlights:
Visiting Luderitz and eating a meal at a good Portuguese seafood restaurant on the occasion of our wedding anniversary.
Driving the remote 70 km Hoanib river bed and seeing some very dangerous game up close.
Kayaking off Pelican Point with the baby seals. This was such good fun!
Hanging around Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. These towns are the most ‘Western’ in Namibia and offer good shopping/restaurants.
Francine’s skydiving adventure
A meal at Joe’s Beer House, Windhoek. This place is famous and quite a joint!
Our fossil tour at the Mesosaurus Fossil Bush Camp near Keetmanshoop with Gael.
Our three days at the Rietfontein waterhole in the Etosha National Park.
Our Kwando river tour with Dan. A close encounter with hippos.
What a super record of your wonderful journey. Modern day explorers! Now maybe write a book to help other potential visitors to these parts.
The question is what next? We shall look forward to the next episode!
Have a great Christmas with your family.
Love Betty.
