Geologists have still to discover the colossal magnet which is buried deep in the ground, somewhere in the North West of Lusaka, Zambia, but WE know it exists! For every time Bertha leaves Lusaka, we’re drawn back again – to Dylan’s garden!
Here, we can enjoy the garden, do some onward planning, make small repairs/improvements and just relax with friends. And we really do feel that we have made good friends in Lusaka. We have known the crowd for more than two years now, in which time there has been a new addition to the Balducci family (baby Ariah – the calmest baby we’ve ever seen) and it has been wonderful to meet up with everyone again.
Marco even lent us his “Troopy”, so we could make trips into town, without taking the truck. It’s as much of a head-turner as Big Bertha (with an engine that’s twice as loud!) and we have lost count of the times that people have asked if it’s for sale! David returned the favour, by fixing Marco’s new ride – a temperamental 40 year old Caravelle (people-mover).
We have enjoyed lunches, dinners and braais with Dylan, David, Elke, Tahira, Marco, Keanu, Laura, Simonga, Billy, Manilo, Bruce and Kate. Thank you to Peter, who cooks chicken like no-one else! Not forgetting the cats (ginger cat and miaow miaow) and dogs (Stanley and Livingstone)! It’s a rare thing to feel so at home and we will miss them greatly, when we finally move on… until the magnet kicks in again, of course and we end up back in the garden!
Hi there, I was getting worried, we haven’t heard from you for ages!
How wonderful it is to meet people like the ones in Lusaka, they are like an extended family.
Take care
Pauline xx
ps. The baby is a little cutie.
Thanks Pauline. Sorry for the lack of updates. Combination of no good wi-fi, not very much happening and/or being a bit lazy! 😉
Yes, we have met some wonderful, interesting people. They were very supportive when my Dad passed away – really, like having family around. We were so lucky to meet them. xx
We can understand why that big magnet pulled you back to Zambia. That magnet held us there for ten years!
What a wonderful family you have found there. We found the farming folk in Zambia so warm and welcoming. It looks idyllic.
Visiting Botswana after the rains is a good idea. We went to Chobe Game Lodge in the dry season and it is one of my favourite places on the planet. I have wonderful memories of the elephants crossing the river at sunset. There are famous cave paintings near Maun.
Sorry to hear about your father.
Thanks for your comments Carolyn. We love Zambia – it’s our home in Africa!
