We are very lucky to have Raquel as a friend. A Londoner, Raquel moved to Béziers in 2003 to give the Mediterranean lifestyle a try and hasn’t left.
With time on our hands, whilst Big Bertha waited for a ship to transport her to Argentina, we accepted Raquel’s invitation to stay in her flat in the heart of Béziers, for however long. Raquel spends a lot of time travelling with work and so we wouldn’t be stepping on her toes.
Béziers is a lovely city. On the river Orb, and about 15km from the coast, it has a very amiable centre with a large ‘Place’. The old quarter is a maze of alleyways with the Cathedral that dominates the skyline.
Francine and I spent our time here planning our South American trip and hiking around the Béziers surrounds – mainly along the Canal du Midi.
It was also great that we were able to visit old friends from our Singapore days, Elspeth and Nigel, who now live in Alès. During our mini “holiday from our holiday”, we enjoyed a pleasant tour around Nîmes, as well as a visit to (and through) the Pont du Gard aqueduct.
Brilliant photos … what a lovely interlude in your exciting journey. Wishing you much happiness in your continued safe travels. Looking forward to the forthcoming book …. Travels With my Bestie BB ….
It looks absolutely beautiful, such a lovely place to hang out. Looking forward to the next instalment with BB 😘
The place looks amazing and what an incredible journey 😁👍
As much as I understand and like beer……. I am glad to see that you are drinking wine with the mussels, Francine.
Un petit rosé, bien sûr! 😉
