We visited a Salt Mine

Just north of Bogota there is a salt mine in the small town of Nemocón. We navigated through the narrow streets, parked up and went to investigate. The part of the mine we visited is no longer operational (unlike the mine Dave visited in Bolivia!), but other parts are still very active with a steady flow of lorries to and from the town.

Francine and I, being of a ripe old age, can often buy cheaper entrance tickets being “Jubilados” (retired). Having bought our tickets and collected our hard hats, we entered the mine with the tour group and our guide.

There is quite a lot to see – salt pools, a chapel, several diorama’s about the history of the mine and even a film set for a movie about the rescue of 33 Chilean miners trapped inside the San José Mine in Chile for 69 days. This was particurly interesting as we had visited the mine in Chile.

The lighting in the mine was very photogenic and we very much enjoyed our visit.
