Bertha had not benefited from so much attention for a long while, as she received at TM Trucking’s “spa” and she made it known that she was not ready to leave soon. Every time we took a test drive, there was some new small issue that needed sorting. A week after our “goodbye” braai (bbq) we were still there! However, she eventually agreed to let us leave, so we continued our touring by crossing Johannesburg to visit the Cradle of Humankind Museum and the interesting Sterkfontein Caves.
Bertha arrived in Namibia with new shoes, but they were soon scuffed and scored following her forays off-road and into the bush. Our girl has expensive tastes (imagine the Manolo Blahnik of tyres), but we thought she deserved a new set before shipping to South America and had left them at the garage, ready to fit when we passed by on our way out to the Port. However, Bertha had other ideas and on our way to visit new overlanding friends, Johan and Lynn, we had a blow out (or “broke a heel”)!
Fortunately, Dave is a dab hand at tyre changing and we carry two spares (though one of those was pretty bad), so, after a few very enjoyable days of R&R by the Vaal River, we headed back to Terry’s garage again! Bertha had her new shoes fitted and, finally, we were on our way properly once more!
Great to read another of your stories! Can’t wait for South America!
We’re doing bali-Sulawesi-Java-bali staying end of June for 6 weeks, can’t wait xx
Is that an Ombak Putih Cruise? We still talk about our trips with them!xx
