We had a “whoopsie” in Honduras and, as a result, after consulting with our overlanding friends, Neil and Pat, we decided to head directly to Belize for a repair at the Mennonite community in Spanish Village. More about that in our Belize post..

From Copan in Honduras we headed directly to the Guatemalan border, crossing with relative ease. We then drove directly the Belize border, only stopping briefly for shopping and to visit the Quiriguá ruins. The site has a number of impressive Stelae (standing stones), with intricate carvings, depicting the various dynastic rulers. The dates of their rule were recorded using the Mayan calendar – exact to the day, month and year. The whole site was tranquil and beautiful. We were glad we had taken the small diversion from our route and enjoyed our morning visit, before the sun got too hot.

Hi, they really were amazing stone masons! the carvings are beautiful and what a lovely way to display them under their own little pagodas, love the lizard too!
I’m intrigued to hear about your whoopsie!!
