Small, but perfectly formed, the Kingdom of eSwatini is bordered by Mozambique to the East and South Africa to the North, South and West. It may not be a destination that immediately springs to mind for tourism, nevertheless it has a number of attractions, including the charming Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary. We were lucky to meet fellow traveller, Ellen, again, as she is a regular visitor to eSwatini and was keen to share one of her favourite Mlilwane hikes with us.
We wandered nonchalantly along the Hippo Trail, confident in the knowledge that there are a few hippo and crocodiles, but nothing that was looking to eat us. Here is one of the rare places where you might see the shy suni antelope (unfortunately, it was hiding when we visited!), as well as blesbok, sable, roan and other antelope.
Marco (one of our Lusaka friends) has an Uncle living in the beautiful Mdzimba Mountains and we were fortunate to spend some time above the clouds at his place. A keen gardener, he had planted a great number of small trees, which yielded harvests far greater than their size. Obviously a man with green fingers! The scenery in the mountains was spectacular and it was with reluctance that we tore ourselves away to continue our journey south back to South Africa.
I had to look up what half of those listed animals are, heh. That view in the mountains is unreal!
Ha ha! I’ve finally progressed from calling them all “goat”! 🙂 x
Wow you two have been busy!
What with Big Bertha’s shoes, and all.
The circle of stones looked interesting, and worth the trip for sure.
When are you off to South America?
Really enjoy hearing about your adventures keep them coming.
