Big Bertha (BB) has a MAN 13.290 chassis and a custom made cabin built by the German firm Bocklet. Our truck has been christened ‘Big Bertha’ – suggested by our friend, Caroline. Custom-built in 2012 for the Overlanding Family, from whom we bought it in September 2018, BB has already traveled the world once and we are taking her around for a second time. You can find her specifications here.
It’s a ‘go anywhere’ vehicle, but given it’s going to be our home for the time being, we’ll only use its true off-road ability in exceptional circumstances. We can also be fairly self-sufficient. We can carry a lot of fuel and water and can replenish our batteries with the engine, solar or our generator.
BB has a ferocious appetite for diesel; and so our aim is to travel short distances and spend time touring our destinations.
If you have a specific question about our home on wheels, write a comment and we’ll do our best to answer, or refer you to a person who can.
